Bill Stanley

Collection Manager, Division of Mammals, The Field Museum

As the mammal collection manager, Bill Stanley oversees the preparation, cataloguing, and installation of specimens from all over the world. Bill grew up in Kenya, gaining his passion for natural history on family safaris and volunteering at the National Museum of Kenya and the Nairobi Animal Orphanage. He went on to earn degrees from Humboldt State University and later was responsible for the preparation of whales that had washed up along the northern California coastline. In addition to his collection management duties, each year Bill works to document the small mammals in the montane forests of Tanzania. Just last year he documented the natural history of the Kilimanjaro mole-shrew, the mountain’s only endemic mammal.
