Monitoring Endangered Peregrine Falcons in Chicago

Step out on a ledge with Field Museum scientist Mary Hennen as she climbs some of Chicago’s tallest skyscrapers to monitor our recovering population of once-endangered Peregrine Falcons. Over the last 20 years, Mary and her fellow team members on the Chicago Peregrine Program have helped to successfully reintroduce these beautiful birds back into the Midwest.

Check out Mary's Expedition Archive, where you can browse through photos, dispatches, and interactive maps describing the birds' mating, nesting, and breeding progress over the years. Each spring, you can also tune in to our webcams at various nesting sites to watch offspring hatch, mature, and fledge (take their first flight).
