Gonzalo Giribet, Ph.D.
Professor of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology & Curator of Invertebrates
Museum of Comparative Zoology, Harvard University
Dr. Gonzalo Giribet is interested in the origins and maintenance of animal diversity, especially of invertebrate animals, and uses their morphology and DNA to explain their evolutionary relationships, biogeographic patterns, and population genetics. He received his licenciatura (Spain’s Bachelor of Science Degree) in 1993 and his Ph.D. in 1997, both from the Universitat de Barcelona. He conducted postdoctoral research at the American Museum of Natural History in New York before moving on to Harvard in 2000, becoming a professor there in 2007.
Vanessa Gonzalez
Graduate Student
Museum of Comparative Zoology, Harvard University
Ms. Vanessa Gonzalez is a second year graduate student in Dr. Giribet's lab at Harvard. She received her B.S. in Marine Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles. Following this, she received her M.S. in Biological Sciences at California State University, Los Angeles. She is currently working on the BivAToL project as part of her dissertation research. Her research interests include molecular systematics, marine biology, and evolutionary biology. She assisted at Moreton Bay with molecular preparations.
Alejandra Guzmán
Graduate Student
Museum of Comparative Zoology, Harvard University
Ms. Alejandra Guzmán examines the systematics of bivalves through molecular markers (genes). She obtained her B.A. from Harvard University and is currently a technician in Dr. Giribet's molecular lab at Harvard, funded by the BivAToL project. She assisted at Moreton Bay with molecular sample preparation.
